1/9/13 - Happy New Year to all! The Winter indoor program has SOLD OUT again this year even though we increased the program limit from 100 to 150. The Spring track & field registration details are being finalized and should be available by the end of January. Expect practices to be Monday and Thursday evenings starting March 25. We had 360 kids on the team last year, will we break the 400 barrier this Spring?
12/5/12 - I had to wait a couple days before writing my follow up email to all of you as the excitement had my thoughts all over the place.
This past weekend was the best day in the history of the Howard County Junior Striders and Bullseye Running! With 59 kids competing at the National Meet, most very well I must add, and the parents, friends and relatives supporting the entire team at the meet and then celebrating together at Fort Mill BBQ (we literally filled the place), I gained a greater feeling that this group/program really is a team. Many view running as an individual sport but I have always looked at it as a team sport. A
team needs all the individuals involved caring for each other and doing more, not just for their own good but for the good of the whole. It was very evident to me this past Saturday the way the parents and kids acted that if we were not a team before, we certainly are now! Thanks parents for being apart of this and allowing your kids the opportunity to be apart of this and please thank the kids for me for giving their very best out there and doing it not just for themselves but also for their teammates!
If you have not heard all the details, here is a short recap: we placed 2nd in the overall team competition (let's win it next year!), we had 4 age group teams place 2nd (1 missed 1st by 1 point), we had 7 individuals make it to the podium (8th or better) including 2 National Champions and 4 kids just missed the podium by finishing 9th (darn). Times were great, places were great and effort was better than great! Here is the link to the results (AAU 2012 XC Nationals). The local paper should have the details in there this week as well so get that for the scrapbook!
Maybe many of you parents and kids will join us for the holiday festive Rudolph Run or Relay on Sunday 12/16/12, go to the web site for a registration form or the online registration link.
Maybe many of you will run with us this winter at the Meadowbrook Facility, go to the youth page of the web site (almost sold out).
Maybe many of you will join us in the spring for the track program which will start in late March (practices are Monday and Thursday evenings).
Maybe many of you will join us next summer when we head to Disney World for the AAU Club Championships Track Meet the week of July 8-14 (consider vacation plans now :)).
Maybe many will return for the XC season and Nationals next year!
Whatever the case is I am sure we will see each other soon but for now we wish you all a very Happy Holidays!
