Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary will be holding its 15th Annual 5K Run for the Animals and 1-Mile Fun Walk on Sunday, May 20th. All funds raised will go towards the life saving work Poplar Spring does every day. The funds will care and feed the farm animals that live at Poplar Spring, as well as educate the public about compassion towards all animals.

Registration Fee for both the Run and Walk
Prior to April 16, 2018: $28.00
April 16 – May 19, 2018: $30.00
Race Day: $35

Prizes

Monetary prizes are given to the top 3 overall male and female finishers. Awards are also be given to the top team, and top male and female finishers in the following age categories: 13 and under, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39,40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and older.

We also give out prizes to our top two fundraisers!

Team Scoring 

The winning animal and general teams were based on the top two finishing male and top two finishing female runners.

The MC for the race is Lisa Berigan, radio host of BIG 100.3!!! Lisa has over 20 years experience hosting radio shows and is the proud companion to Daisy, a Sheltie mix. Click here to listen to an interview between Lisa and Terry Cummings, Poplar Spring’s director.

Prior to the race there is a pre-race warm-up by the Boot Camp Girl for all the runner’s and walkers!

Packet Pick-up 

Packet Pick-up is held on Saturday, May 19 from 10:30 – 3:00 at RnJ Sports, 11910 Parklawn Drive Rockville, MD 20854.

Packet Pick-up is also held on race day, Sunday, May 20, at Wheaton Regional Park from 7:00 a.m. until the start of the race at 8:30 a.m.

Poplar Spring worked hard to make the race as environmentally friendly as possible.

  • All our food is vegan.
  • We use biodegradable utensils, cups, and garbage bags.
  • Each race participant will have a tree planted in his or her honor.
  • We recycle as much as possible from the race.
  • We collect used shoes at the race, which are donated to Interfaith Works, a Montgomery County nonprofit working to help county residents in need.
